Videocon launches India’s first DTH service with 3D technology - 3D+HD+DVR set top box

India's first DTH service with 3D technology.

Apparently, the 3D craze hasn’t yet died down and doesn’t show any signs of doing so, despite celebrated film critic Roger Ebert’s constant diatribes against the technology. Videocon has gone ahead and launched India's  first DTH service with 3D technology.

Not much is yet known about the 3D functionality of this device, but as more and more content starts pouring in, it should be worthwhile if you own a 3D TV. Some cricketing competitions have been in talks about broadcasting in 3D, as have the next Olympics. Of course, movies and other content would be a given. As of now, there aren’t any channels which offer 3D content, but Videocon has said it will launch two such channels by June.

The set top box obviously supports high-definition output, so you will be able to see all your favourite HD channels. And it has Digital Video Recorder functionality to pause, rewind and forward live TV & record up to 200 hours; it also facilitates auto serial recording. Along with 5x digital picture quality, users will get a boost in the audio department with High Definition Digital sound.

Videocon d2h has maximum number of 288 channels and services with a very strong regional content for their specific audiences along with all the sports channels on board. The newly added Channels in HD format are Discovery HD, NGC HD, Movies Now HD, Travel XP, HD Active Music, HD d2h Movies and the 13 new channels in:  Baby TV, Spacetoon, Movies Now (SD), FX, Fox Crime, Big CBS Prime, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, NGC Wild, NGC Adventure, NGC Music.

The 3D Set Top Box with DVR and HD is priced at Rs. 3,990. Videocon is also making a variant available without DVR technology, which costs Rs. 2,490.
